Transportation

McAllister is especially car friendly. It is very convenient to park, and nearby highways are easy to drive to from anywhere in this part of the city. In contrast, the public transit network in McAllister is not very accessible. Thankfully, homeowners are served by a few bus lines, and it is very easy to get to a nearby bus stop from most properties. This area is not particularly conducive to bicycling since the cycling infrastructure is not very well-developed, and riding is made arduous by the often sloping topography. Travelling on foot is also not especially feasible for house buyers in McAllister as few daily errands can be run without the use of a car.

In terms of education, it is a rather short walk to reach daycares from anywhere in this neighbourhood. In contrast, there are no primary schools and no high schools in McAllister.

Character

McAllister is a very good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm environment. McAllister is very quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Parks aren't well-spread out, making it occasionally hard to access them. Despite that, residents will be able to access public green spaces in nearby neighbourhoods.

Housing

McAllister experienced its biggest construction boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available housing stock is from this time period. In this neighbourhood, about 40% of buildings are small apartment buildings, and the remaining properties are mainly mobile homes and townhouses. The proportions of renters and homeowners are about even. There is a higher proportion of two bedroom homes in this part of Saint John.
