The neighbourhood of Chinatown is part of the city of Montréal, Quebec, which is located in the Greater Montreal metropolitan area.

Transportation

Chinatown is a great neighbourhood for eco-friendly transportation options. Thanks to Place-d'Armes Station with access to the Ligne 2 - Orange, and about 10 nearby bus lines, Chinatown has a great public transit infrastructure. Most homes for sale in this part of Montréal are located in areas that are also very well-suited for walking; most daily needs are especially convenient to carry out on foot, and innumerable businesses of different types can be found as well. A fair number of residents in the area use their bicycle since riding is made easier by the generally flat terrain, the bicycling infrastructure is very extensive, and there is usually a bike-share station nearby.

Services

It is very often possible for property owners in Chinatown to shop for general and specialty groceries by walking. Moreover, thanks to 30-odd restaurants and cafes in Chinatown, there is almost always a place to get a meal or beverage just around the corner. With respect to education, secondary schools and daycares are convenient to reach on foot from anywhere in this part of Montréal. On the other hand, there are no primary schools in Chinatown.

Character

Chinatown is a great neighbourhood for home buyers who enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. Finding things to do in this part of the city is very easy. The streets are usually busy with people, there is a great variety of entertainment venues, and with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink as they are generally located very close by. Boulevard Saint-Laurent is among the most lively streets in this area. There is not much greenery in this neighbourhood; although, it is very easy to get to parks since there are a few of them close by for residents to check out.

Housing

The buildings in this neighbourhood are relatively new, because about 40% of its buildings were built following the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. The sizeable percentage of large apartment buildings in the housing stock of this neighbourhood is an important part of its character. Renters occupy about 85% of the units in the neighbourhood whereas the rest are occupied by owners. There is a higher proportion of one bedroom homes in this part of the city.
